News On Sunday, 29 January, 2011, Dr. Sevag Avakian from Armenia, visited Anjar during a tour to Lebanon to collect DNA samples for bone marrow studies, which will benefit patients suffering from leukemia. Hundreds of compatriots and dozens of ARF “Sh. Misakian” members voluntarily visited the LOKH “Aghtamar” Chapter to donate DNA samples.
With our deep sorrow we inform you about the death of Knarig Vartanian, 80 years old, which happened on Monday, January 30. The funeral service took place on Tuesday, January 31, in the “St. Boghos” Church. Our condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased.
On Friday, January 20th at 7:30, the "Hmazkayine" "B. Sevag" Chapter organized a gathering to honor the memory of late George Apelian, an intellect and author of many books. The opening words were said by the Chairman of the chapter, Hagop Aintablian, who reminded the attendants that the event was organized for the honor of the late George Apelian who benefited the Armenian culture in many aspects. A power point presentation prepared by the daughter of George Apelian, Vanig Apelian, representing the childhood, youth, adolescence and works of George Apelian, was demonstrated. Yessayi Havatian, represented George Apelian the friend and the coworker in the religious, social and cultural committees of the village, the man who had the time to write, attend meetings, work in his own business, and be a father and husband to his family. The books of George Apelian and his role in the “Aztag” newspaper was presented by Nora Parseghian, an editor in the Newspaper, who said that George Apelian was greatly dedicated to writing, who also became a familiar face in the newspaper with his articles under the name “Tsynagan”, she said that he never tolerated mistakes and represented them in his books and articles in an amusing way. She continued saying that the books he wrote about the stories of the survivors of the Armenian Genocide, who live in Kurdish tribes, required great dedication and effort from him and had to travel several times to different regions of the neighboring countries for meetings and gatherings. At the end of the event, 5 books of the Author, “Beirut”, “Nedenk Prnenk”, “Aghparig Apig Me Chour” in Arabic, “Makaroni Tileg Tileg” and “Kouyriges Mi Dzakher Mam” were blessed with wine and sold to the public for symbolic prices.
The Mousa Daghian National Committee of Australia, commemorated the 71st anniversary of the Mousa Daghian heroic battle, through a series of celebrations organized from the 13th of October to the 16th, in Melbourne. On October 13 and 14, the committee and the Mousadaghains in Australia gathered to prepare the wheat and the meat for the traditional Herisa. On Saturday, a barbeque night was organized and in a festive atmosphere the Herisa was prepared and cooked to the early hours of Sunday morning. On Sunday, October 16th, a Special prayer was held for the souls of the Mousa Daghian Martyrs, where official guests and representatives from active organizations and unions in Australia were invited. Later, the Herisa was blessed and distributed to the attendants in the newly constructed “Armenian Community Center”.
Finally! The long expected and anticipated snow started falling over Anjar on Friday morning, January 13th, 2012, to cover the village in white and brighten up the hearts of every individual… The children enjoyed making snowmen and the adults enjoyed the picturesque view of the village. The chilly weather will most likely continue and more showers of rain and snow are expected.
The electricity crisis, from which Anjar is suffering, is almost solved due to the continuous effort and the cooperation of the "Garmir Ler" committee and the Anjar Municipality. Three massive generators of 350kva each are placed in different areas in Anjar to supply electricity for the village.
Today, January 12, 2012, Anjarians woke up to see Anjar covered in white, since the long waited snow arrived on the early hours of the day, later turning into rain to melt down its traces, whereas the Lebanese weather forecast is predicting more snow for the days ahead.
Under the auspices of the Municipality of Anjar, the Hamazkayine “Barouyr Sevag” Chapter organized a ball on Friday January 6, 2012 in Restaurant "Arev". Pierre Fattoush representing MP Nicola Fattoush and Kamil Maalouf were present, in addition to representatives from functioning associations and unions in the village and a large number of compatriots. Hagop Aintablian, chairman of the chapter, said the opening words on behalf of the organizing committee, welcoming the official guests and representatives, later he invited the conductors of the ball Hovhannes Taslakian and Sevan Atamian who in their turn invited the singer of the day “Vartananki” who created a festive atmosphere through his songs accompanied by his band, while the highlight of the feast was the traditional Anjarian “Daoul Zourna”. The ball served its purpose; to create a cheerful atmosphere amongst the attendants and collect a significant amount of donations for the cultural purposes of the chapter.
The religious fathers of the village, representatives of associations and unions and the ARF “Garmir Ler” Committee members gathered in the “S. Zeitlian” Center, on Friday, January 6, 2012 to congratulate and accept congratulations for Christmas. Garo Pilavjian, on behalf of Cultural Council, the organizers, welcomed the attendants and wished a prosperous and harmonious year for the people of Anjar, later he invited the religious fathers; Rev. Father Ashod Karakashian, Father Mesrob Topalian and Rev. Raffi Messerlian and the Mayor of Anjar, Garo Pamboukian, to express their wishes and hopes for the coming year for Anjarians and Armenians.
On January 6, 2012 and despite the rainy weather, the compatriots of the village gathered in the Churches of Anjar, to celebrate Christ’s Birth. The Christmas Mass in the “St. Boghos” Church of Anjar was headed by Rev. Father Ashod Karakashian and in the Armenian Evangelical Church, By Rev. Raffi Messerlian. After the Sunday Masses, the believers were surprised by the HMEM Fanfare awaiting for them in the yards of the churches while playing Christmas songs, prepared specially for the occasion.
On Friday evening, January 5, 2012, the students of the “Shoushanian” Sunday school of the “St. Boghos” Church and the members of the Evangelical “Chanits” association visited the homes of the village to announce the advent of Christmas. Later the believers gathered in the St. Boghos Church of Anjar, where a special Mass was held announcing Christ’s Birth.
The AYF “Harach” seniors gathered in the HMEM Club of Anjar to celebrate Christmas, on Wednesday, January 4, 2012. The members had a great time, where they ate, danced and finished the evening by singing Armenian patriotic songs…
Today, January 4, 2012, the HMEM scouts of Anjar assembled in the HMEM club to celebrate New Year and Christmas, during a gathering conducted by veteran scout, Jano Pamboukian. The scouts played games, sang songs, danced and cheered up when the Santas arrived with presents and treats for everyone…
On the early hours of January 1, 2012, the teenagers and youth of the village gathered in the” Mousaler” Hall to continue celebrating the beginning of the new year with friends, in an event organized by the ARF “Shavarsh Misakian” Chapter. The conductor of the feast, Sarhad Aprahamian, singer, Jean Kozian and DJ, Serge Kaloshian, created a festive atmosphere, where the attendants enjoyed to the maximum.
The ARF “Garmir Ler” Committee of Anjar wishes a Happy New Year and a Merry Christmas to Anjarians particularly and Armenians generally, hoping 2012 will be a year full of success and prosperity…
