News The signing event of the new book “Aghparig Apig Me Chour” which is the 2nd chapter of the “Tsegianes Nahadagutyun” by the Anjarian Author George Apelian, took place on Tuesday, 26th of October, in the Haigazian University. The Mayor of Anjar Mr. Garo Pamboukian, Mayor of Bourj Hammoud, Antranig Messerlian, Bishop Norayr Ashekian, principal of the Haigazian University Rev. Paul Haidosdian, Reverends Soghomon Kilavian and Raffi Messerlian, in addition to family members and a large number of compatriots were present. After the event in which the book and its author were presented by the director of the Haigazian University, Mrs. Maria Yardemian, and the manager of the Aztag Newspaper, Mr. Shahan Kandaharian, Mr. George Apelian Signed copies of his book for the audience. On Sunday, October 23rd, a special mass was held in the “St. Boghos” Church by Rev. Father Hrant Kevorkian, for the souls of the Karageozian family, where the students and the administration of the “K. Gulbenkian” Secondary School and representatives of different associations and unions were present. After the mass the attendants were invited to the “K. Gulbenkian” Hall where Rev. Robert Sarkissian, chairman of the Karageozian Commemorative Corporation said a few words about the role of the Karageozian institution in the village. During the event the institution distributed certificates to the women who have completed a needlework course presented by Mrs. Juliet Boursalian. A book in which the author talks about the changes her life passed through whether they are geographical, spiritual or business related, and mentions ways to manage those changes. She talks about the circumstances in which she had to leave her hometown Anjar and reestablish in Florida USA, in her book its evident the love she holds for her family members, being the youngest daughter of a traditional Mousa Daghain family whose father, a farmer, has dedicated his life to his family. Aram Arkuni, a Lecturer in UCLA, and universities of New York and Michigan, was invited to give a lecture about the Armenian press in the Eastern USA, in an event organized by the Hamazkayin “B. Sevag” Chapter, on Friday, 22nd of October, at 7:30 pm, in the “S. Zeitlian” Center. After the opening words made by the chairman of the chapter, Miss Lousig Der Kalousdian, in which she presented the lecturer, Aram Arkuni talked about the stages the Armenian press, specially newspapers, passed through starting from the late 1900s, mentioning names and conditions of the newspapers published in that period. On October 3rd during the annual luncheon of the Asparez and Horizon organizations, 5 Armenian women were honored for their long service in the horizon TV station and Asbares newspaper, and amongst the honored was an Anjarian compatriot Maro Keshishian. Jack Daghelian, Chairman, Vartkes Khederlarian, Raffi Kevorkian, Haig Keshishian, Nareg Doumanian, Hrag Stamboulian and Sevan Doumanian represent the newly elected committee. Congratulations and best wishes of success… The women of Anjar were invited to a breakfast party on Friday, 15th of October in the “Aljazira” Restaurant, in an event organized by LOKH “Aghtamar” Chapter. The women present counting 125 in number enjoyed the delicious food prepared by the LOKH members and the pleasant mood created by the conductor of the feast, nurse Marie Flore Akrabian Aroushian. With our deepest sorrow we inform you the death of Vartoug Kadian 70 years old, that happened on Friday 15th of October, the funeral services took place the same day at 3pm in the “St. Boghos” Church. LOKH “Aghtamar” Chapter’s administrative Committee and the Municipality of Anjar, in collaboration with the “Makzoume” Organization and “Ghada Ali Rida” Charity Fund, organized a gathering and a work shop, presenting; the solar power and the global warming, ways of reducing electricity usage, and using the solar power in cooking food. During the gathering which took place on Wednesday, 13th of October, in the LOKH “Aghtamar” Center, Nicola Afstseeds talked about the dangers of the global warming and ways to prevent it suggesting practical ways of saving electricity in our everyday life and finally explained the method of building a box which can be used to cook food using sunlight. Sako Shekherdemian and Lorie Mardirosian got married on Sunday, October 10, in the "St. Boghos" Church. Congratulations to the newlyweds… The Armenian Catholic Sisters' School opened its doors to its students during a gathering where the mayor of Anjar, Mr. Garo Pamboukian, was invited to say his words for the occasion, who encouraged the students to continue their education which is a must in today’s progressed world. The principal of the School, Sister Hermone, and after giving a symbolic gift to the Mayor, welcomed the students and the teachers and wished them success for the coming school year. Armen and Salpi Tashjian were blessed with their first child, a baby girl, Arevig, on Friday 24th of September. On Wednesday October 6, Koko and Liza Kalemkerian were blessed with their third Son, Tro. Congratulations … Vahak Panossian and Rima were blessed with the holy matrimony on Sunday, 5th of October, in the “St. Boghos” Church. Harvest day is celebrated every first Sunday of October, in an event organized by the women’s association of the Armenian Evangelical Church, who gather financial donations and offerings of vegetables and fruits for the KAHL Association, for the elderly and the blind. Kevork Karaboyajian, manager of KAHL, conveyed the message of the day on Sunday, 3rd of October, where the donations of fruits and vegetables were piled up in an appealing way in the Armenian Evangelical church and a representative group from the KAHL Association was also present, who, after the service, were invited for lunch prepared by the women’s association. Minister of labor Ghazi Al Aridi, representative of the Armenian block MP Hagop Pakraduni, 27 mayors and vice mayors, judges, military and security officers and the representative block of the Zahle province in the Bekaa region, were invited for a meeting over lunch in restaurant "Shams", on Friday, 1st of October, in an event organized by the Municipality of Anjar. The municipality of Anjar organized the event to; honor the minister of labor who has provided 500 meters of asphalt for our village, express feeling of appreciation to the neighboring municipalities and get acquainted with the municipalities of the region. The mayor of Anjar welcomed the guests and after giving a symbolic gift to Minister Ghazi Al Aridi thanked him for his offer and expressed his gratitude towards the neighboring municipalities on behalf of the Anjarians for their support in the primary years when Mousa Daghians first settled in Anjar. The students of the “Haratch” “K. Gulbenkain” Secondary school gathered in the “St. Boghos” Church on Thursday, 30th of September, where they received the sacrament then headed towards the Mousa Daghian Monument to pay their respects to the martyrs. The students then gathered in the "K. Gulbenkian" Hall where they recited welcoming words, represented performances on the stage and received welcoming gifts. The principal of the school Mr. Armen Tashjian welcomed the students and the teachers and invited the Mayor of Anjar, Mr. Garo Pambopukian, who spoke about the excellent results the students of the school had in the governmental exams which brings fulfillment to our village. How old is the Armenian DNA?, Where did the Armenian Nation generate from?, and other questions were answered on Friday, 1st of October, at 6:30 pm, in the “S. Zeitlian” Center, during a lecture given by Peter Hreshdagian, who has taken 300 DNA samples from different Armenian individuals from around the world, to study the age and constitution of the Armenian DNA. The event was organized by the LOKH “Aghtamar” Chapter’s educational committee, and the opening words were made by Rita Lakissian on behalf of the committee, who invited Dr. Hagop Panossian to represent the lecturer and later translate the lecture which was given in English. Congratulations to Vartan Kabakian and Zaroug Atamian, who were blessed with the holy matrimony, on Saturday, 25th of September, in the “St. Boghos” Church. We also congratulate Serge Kendirjian and Arsho Tembelian, who got married on Sunday, 26th of September, in the ‘St. Boghos” Church. On Wednesday, 29th of September, the students of the Armenian Evangelical Secondary School gathered in the “Hedvig” Hall, to start the first day of the school year 2010-2011 in an exciting atmosphere, where the Mayor of Anjar, Mr. Garo Pamboukian, spoke to the students about the importance of education and advised them to continue their education to its highest levels. The students danced on the tunes of the traditional Daul Zurna starting the school year in high spirits...
