  • Anjarians Said Their "No" To The Armenian-Turkish Protocols

Given the community’s overwhelming opposition to the Armenia-Turkey protocols, by the organization of the Lebanese ARF Central Committee's Executive council has organized a protest demonstration in the yard of the "S. Zetlian" Center, on Friday 2nd of September.
The event was attended by ARF "Garmir Ler" committee, religious personnel,, representatives of the different associations beside hundreds of compatriots who were gathered to raise the voice of their heroic ancestors and say "No" for the Armenian-Turkish protocols". The opening words were made by Mr. Hagop Aintablian, chairman of the ARF "Garmir Ler" committee where he mentioned that deportation of our ancestors from Mousadagh was the result of the brutal and violent political policies of the Turkish government and therefore the Armenian people can never say yes to these protocols taking into consideration the criminal history of this government towards the Armenian nation. The "Bidi Inas" poem of Vahan Tekeian was gracefully recited by Naroy Atamian, after which the message of the day was conveyed by the member of ARF Bureau Mr. Aghvan Vartanian. Concerning the Karabagh issue Vartanian said: "If Russia recognizes territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t recognize the right of nations to self-determination, for Karabakh has never been a part of independent Azerbaijan." he continued by saying: "We closely watch the developments in Karabakh, where a new model of statehood is being formed, the authorities enjoy public confidence and serious programs are being implemented." Commenting on the Armenian Turkish Protocol, Vardanyan said, “Armenian Genocide is an undisputable fact and the President knows that. Any official representing Armenia can’t have a different opinion. The fact of Genocide doesn’t belong to the past but is an issue of security of our nation.”

Mr. Aghvanian stated that as neighboring states, Armenia and Turkey are bound to take steps to normalize relations. However, good neighborly relations can be established between the two countries only when Turkey recognizes the Armenian Genocide and reestablishes the rights of the Armenian people. The establishment of relations without preconditions and the lifting of the blockade are merely first steps. He ended his message by calling on the Armenian people and the political forces in Armenia to properly assess the Armenia-Turkey relations process with its negative consequences and, in the most unified manner, deter the possible irreversible losses.

The event continued by a bunch of patriotic and national songs performed by Mrs. Sevan Metlian and a great bouquet of poems of "B.Sevag" recited by Mrs. Arpa Andonian.

Then, the second speaker of the day, Mr. Dikran Jinbashian, member of Central ARF Committee of Lebanon  was invited to make his speech. Mr. Jinbashian mentioned that one of the main aims of Turkey is to extend the gap between Armenian Diaspora and Armenia, which will have irreversible consequences. With these considerations, during this domestic deliberation stage, the ARF will utilize all means available to expose the existing dangers within the protocols in an effort to neutralize them.

Mrs. Salpie Tashjian-Kurkjian then read the announcement made by the ARF "Garmir Ler" Committee concerning the establishment of protocol and development of relations between the republics of Armenia and Turkey.

Worth mentioning that all our compatriots participated in the signature campaign which was organized by AYF LEM "Shavarsh Misakian" Chapter.
