News On Thursday February 19, the commemoration of "Vartanank" and February Rebellion was celebrated in the hall of the Catholic School, by the presence of the three pastors, representatives of the ARF "Garmir Ler" Committee, members of the different associations and a large number of compatriots. After the Lebanese and Armenian anthems, Mrs. Lalig Khoshian, on behalf of the "Garmir Ler" Educational Committee made the opening words and mentioning that our people understand well the current situation of our community and told that: "We remain loyal and anchored to our leaders". After the welcoming words, she invited Rev. Vatche Ekmekdjian to convey the message of "Vartanans". Rev. Ekmekdjian spoke about the importance and the moral values of the "Vartanants' battle, the heroes, the high consciousness of our people and at last he spoke about our constant fight against our old and new enemies. Then, the second speaker of the day Mr. Krikor Hasholian was invited to speak about the February rebellion. Mr. Hasholian highly raised the courageousness of our people and their liberal soul and mentioned that "Vartanans" and February rebellion are the beacons of our history which are going to enlighten the way of the coming generation. Before ending the event with a prayer by Rev. Father Ashod Karakasian, the "Kousan" choir of the Hamazkayin Central committee conducted by our talented maestro Mr. Barkev Taslakian presented a bouquet of songs on this occasion.
On Friday 13th of February, Hamazkayin "B.Sevag" Chapter's Cultural committee had invited Mr. George Sherbetchian and Ms. Shogher Taslakian to give a lecture about "St. Sarkis" & "St. Valentine". For more than an hour they spoke about the history of each saint then showed a movie about our compatriot's opinion. At the end of the lecture, the audience were served "Koumba", the traditional cake of the "St. Sarkis" Day and each received a red flower on the occasion of the "St. Valetine"
Regarding the Lebanese elections which are going to take place on June, we want to inform all Lebanese Armenians in Diaspora especially Anjarians that they can visit the website www.lipananahay.com or the central Committee of Los Angeles to get any information they need related to the elections.
"15 Sdorakrutunnerov Badijner" is a new published book for our well known writer Mr. Boghos Snabian. We congratulate him and wish him further achievements.
By the initiation of our mousadaghian compatriots living in Armenia Mr. Capriele Panossian and Mrs. Snoia Tashjian, established the Mousaler Youth Association on February 7 in the "Naregatsi" Art Institute in Yerevan by the presence of was Father Torkom Donigian and Father Hovagim Manoukian. During the meeting, the members who counted 65 were able to get introduced to the aims of the association which involves preservation and protection of Mousadaghian traditions, they also were able to form their executive committee and tasted the traditional "Banre Houts" and "Koumba", which was prepared on the occasion of the "St. Sarkis" Day. Words of congratulations and success wee made by the executive committee of the Mousaler Association of Armenia.
The eldest Mousadghian in Anjar, Mrs. Yeghsapetouhi Batouzian, who was 108 years old passed away on Monday 2nd of February, after suffering from illness for a short period of time. The funeral service took place on the same day at 12:00 pm in the "St. Paul" church. Our deepest condolences to her family and relatives.
The first lecture of the Hamazkayin "B.Sevag" Chapter's Cultural Committee took place on Friday 30th of January, having as a lecturer Mr. Hovhannes Khoshian.
After the welcoming words by the chairman of the chapter Mr. Hagop Aintablian, the lecturer presented Baris Herouni's hard works, his biography, then with PowerPoint presentation presented his findings and achievements in his field.
