News With our deep sorrow we inform you the death of Mrs. Vartouhi Paltajian , that happened on Sunday, 29th of April. The funeral service took place on the same day at 3:00 pm. in "St. Vartarani Diramayr" Church in Anjar. Our deep condolences to her family, and relatives. ARF "Garmir Ler" Committee's Organizational Council organized a commemoration event of the Armenian Genocide, On Tuesday, 24th of April at 5:00pm in "Hedwig" hall.
Then Dr. Krikor Ejidian was invited to convey the message of the day. In his words, which was accompanied with a slide show, Dr. Ejidian presented the loss of the Armenian people during the Genocide, then ended his words by saying that the Armenian people will struggle till the end to get their compensation and A Free Independent Armenia. After the message of the day a group of the secondary class students of "K.Guilbenkian" Sec. School recited a poem, and then the presents were able to watch the pilgrimage video of the Lebanese Armenian student to Der Zor. Finally the word was given to Bishop Nareg Ashkarian who reevaluated the message of the pilgrimage of Der Zor and the event ended by the prayers of the pastors. ARF LEM “Shavarsh Misakian” Chapter organized a vigil on the night of the 23rd of April, in the “Hedvig” Hall. The opening words were said by Miss Lousig Derkalousdian on behalf of LEM, after which Miss Haverj Shekherdemian gratefully recited the "Armenian Mouse" of William Saroyan. The speaker of the day, Dr. Elie Tashjian said that the Armenian genocide is not a crime committed on behalf of the Armenians only, but it is considered a tangible proof of the inability of the world to prevent such disasters. Then the new choir of the AYF "Haratch" Chapter sang three revolutionary songs, exciting the audience, after which a documentary film prepared by the Times magazine about the Armenian Genocide was shown.

On Sunday, 22nd of April, the honoring ceremony of Bishop Vartan Ashkarian took place in the "K.Guilbenkian" hall in the presence of more than 300 people. After the Lebanese and the Armenian anthems, Mr. Yessayi Havatian, on behalf of the ARF "Garmir Ler" Committee's Organizational Committee, made the opening wordss greeting the 70th birthday and 50th anniversary of his writing career. After the opening words, Dr. Hovhannes Taslakian presented different stations of his life, mentioned the difficulties that he faced during the early stages of his life, and then introduced to us the experienced pedagogue, the decent clergyman and the daring national person. Then Mrs. Arpa Andonian gratefully recited pieces from his latest book, after which Father Antranig Granian briefly presented the poet Vartan Zorents, whih was followed by the "Gakavig" choir of the Hamazkayin "B.Sevag" Chapter where they sang three song. At the end the wine anointment ceremony of the Bishop's latest two books took place with the prayers of the Fathers and pastors present. By the organization of the ARF "Garmir Ler" Committee's Organizational council, on Saturday, 21st of April, Ms. Salpie Kasparian, the translator of the "My Grand Mother" book, for the Turkish (Armenian) writer, Fathiye Chatin, was invited to present the book.
By the organization of Hamazkayin "B.Sevag" Chapter, on Friday 20th of April, the writer and the actor, Mrs. Tamar Hovhannisian performed the musical-play "Woman's Face", produced by Mr. Robert Arakelian. Worth mentioning that Koko Kejderian, Saro , Arevig Arakelian, Shoghag Kendirjian and Rita Khoshian from Anjar participated in the play too.
During this week several commemoration events on occasion of the 92nd anniversary of the Armenian Genocide are going to take place in Anjar. ***April 24 Commemoration Event, organized by the Organizational Council of the ARF "Garmir Ler" Committee. On April 24, at 5:00pm in the "Hedwig" hall.
On Friday, 13th of April, the administration of the Arm. Evan. School of Anjar has organized an assembly session about the history of Armenian needlework, having as a lecturer Mrs. Lisa Tumberian. With our deep sorrow we inform you the death of Mrs. Shoushan Keshishian, wife of Rev. Father Arsen Keshishian, that happened on Thursday, 12 of April, after suffering from illness for a long period of time. The funeral service took place on Friday, 13th of April, at 3:00pm in the "St.Paul" Church. Our deep condolence to her family and relatives. On Wednesday 11th of April Ms. Arpine Emoghlian passed away after suffering from illness for a short period of time. The funeral service was held on Thursday, 12 of April at 1:00pm in the "St. Paul" church. Our deep condolences to her family and friends. On the 7th of April at 9:00PM the Easter dinner feat took place in restaurant "Arev" organized by HMEM Anjar Branch. The feast was under the auspices of the HMEM Regional Committee.
On Sunday, 8th of April large number of compatriots were present in the Easter Mass which took place in the three churches of Anjar. In the "St.Paul" church, the Mass followed by a reception in “K. Gulbenkian” hall organized by the Vestry and Women Association of the church. Nearly all the ceremonies of the Holy week of Easter took place in Anjar according to our religious traditions.
Lokh "Aghtamar" chapter organized "Children's Day" on Sunday, 1st of April, in the "K.Guilbenkian" hall. For more than three hours, our children danced, played games and spent wonderful time especially with exciting tricks of the magician Christine. With our deep sorrow we inform you the death of Mrs. Dzaghig Sebeyan (85 yrs.) that happened on Sunday, 1st of April. The funeral service took place on Tuesday, 3rd of April at 2:00pm in the "St.Paul" church. Our deepest condolences to her family and relatives. Despite the rainy weather, our compatriots celebrated Palm Sunday as usual, children were seen in their best clothes holding candles, accompanied by their parents heading toward their churches, to celebrate the victorious entrance of Jesus to the city of Jerusalem.
On Saturday, 31st of March, the Executive council of the ARF "Garmir Ler" Committee honored the writer, Ms.Claudia Marashelian and the actors of the local films series, which was shown on the LBCI channel and exhibited the life of Lebanese people during the interval of the Ottoman empire domination. Before the official ceremony, our guests visited the ruins of Anjar and "S.Zetlian" Center before heading towards the "K.Guilbenklian" hall, where hundreds of fans were waiting. After the Lebanese and the Armenian anthems, Mr. Geroge Apelian, on behalf of the Executive council made the opening words, and thanked all who had contributed for the success of the film. He continued his words by saying that the film was the real evidence of the Turkish criminal policy. Our compatriots were then able to refresh their memories by watching scenes from the film, after which Mrs. Alice Boghosian (Tutelian) from the Armenian Defense Committee-Lebanon conveyed her message. After expressing her deep gratitude to the great work of the writer and the professional performance of the actors. She said that Turkey is still a field of terrorism, and that the assassination of the Armenian writer Hrant Dink was the latest fact of their brutal policy, even after 92 years. She ended her speech by saying: " We will never stop demanding our rights neither after one hundred year nor after thousands of years later. Then our guest were invited on stage, where the mayor and the two pastors honored them with the symbol of the MousaDagh monument. Then the speech was given to Ms. Claudia Marashelian, who deeply thanked the organizing committee and people of Anjar for their great welcoming. She continued by telling that this film was produced to show the brutality of the Turkish government not only towards Armenian people but also to Lebanese people, who lost the lives of many of its civilians, during the occupation of Ottoman Empire of Lebanon. The event ended by the warm applause of the audience. |
